- For: Practicality, technology, seven-seater available
- Against: Expensive to buy, high running costs
- Verdict: Tech-heavy and comfortable SUV with space for seven
No company offers more SUVs than Mercedes-Benz – and this is one of its newest.
As the name suggests, the GLE is the high-riding equivalent of an E-Class, which means you can expect a luxurious cabin, smooth driving experience, plenty of space and the very latest technology.
But it doesn’t stop there, because along with a long list of trim levels and engines, you can also order your GLE as a GLE Coupe or ballistic Mercedes-AMG GLE 53.
Prices start from just under £60,000, but you get a lot of car for your cash. That’s not to say you can’t pay significantly more by getting over-excited with the options list.
Predictably, the AMG versions are expensive to run, but up to 46.3mpg is available from the entry-level GLE 300d diesel.
Alternatively, the GLE 350de plug-in hybrid, which unusually combines diesel and electric tech, offers 62 miles of EV driving range.
