  • Audi Q2 2020
  • For: Quality interior, style statement, engaging to drive
  • Against: Expensive, ride quality on larger wheels
  • Verdict: Excellent premium compact SUV

Apply an image-friendly badge to a popular body style and what do you get? The Audi Q2. Leaving aside the A1 Citycarver, this is Audi’s smallest SUV.

Prices start from just shy of £30,000, but that’s before you’ve explored the conveyor belt of options. There’s also a sporty SQ2, which comes in at £38,000. Blimey.

Trim levels start with Technik, then Sport, S Line, Black Edition and Vorsprung. Engines include a 1.0-litre turbo petrol in two power outputs, plus a 1.5 petrol, 1.6 diesel and 2.0 diesel.

The Q2 is fun to drive: it steers and grips like a hot hatch, and all models feel surprisingly rapid.

Because it’s not as tall as some compact crossovers, there’s not a great deal of lean when cornering, while it’s as comfortable as cars from the next sector up. Just avoid the larger wheels, which make the ride overly firm.

The Q2 is a thoroughly accomplished car, then. But for a price.
