Porsche Cayenne review

From £57,195

The Cayenne is expensive to buy and run, but offers explosive performance and, for an SUV, a sporty and surprisingly engaging drive.

  • Porsche Cayenne 2020
  • For: Performance, handling, build quality
  • Against: Expensive, big running costs
  • Verdict: A five-seat family SUV with the power and handling of a sports car

The Cayenne didn’t exactly save the company, but its sales success allows Porsche to continue doing crazy things with the 911.

The current, third-generation Cayenne arrived at the end of 2017. It might look similar to the old model, but it features a raft of new tech, a lighter chassis and a more attractive cabin.

It’s almost impossible for an SUV to drive as well as a sports car, but the Cayenne comes fairly close. It’s a thrilling and engaging experience.

Prices start from £57,000, but top-spec models hurtle into three figures – and that’s before you’ve had a play with the Porsche options list.

The standard SUV has also been joined by a Cayenne Coupe, which isn’t a true coupe.

There’s no diesel engine available, so buyers can select from V6 or V8 petrols, the latter of which is available as a plug-in hybrid.

The Cayenne is expensive to buy and run, but offers explosive performance.
