Porsche 718 review

The Porsche 718 Cayman (coupe) and Boxster (roadster) are two of the best sports cars you can buy.

The entry-level 718 Cayman costs £45,000, which is a bargain in the context of the wider Porsche range.

You get the same Porsche ownership experience, the same build quality and, in the real world, just as much fun as the more illustrious 911.

For this latest generation, Porsche shifted to four-cylinder engines, but for 2020 it has announced a 4.0-litre flat-six for GTS versions (along with the flagship GT4).

If nothing else, it should deliver the soundtrack purists have been missing.

Elsewhere, the 718 models deliver precise handling, tremendous performance and, thanks to those controversial four-pot engines, a degree of efficiency.

Things start to get expensive as you progress through the range, especially once you’ve added a few options, but there’s no greater all-round sports car than the 718.
