Launched in 1998, the original Audi TT looked like a concept car for the road. The current model, which dates back to 2014, has lost some of the wow-factor but none of the appeal.
That said, the market for coupes is in decline, so the TT’s replacement is unlikely to follow the same path.
For now, the Audi is available as a Coupe or Roadster, with three degrees of performance. In standard form, there’s a choice of two 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engines, while the TT S gets more power.
The TT RS gets a glorious 2.5 turbocharged five-cylinder firecracker.
The TT ticks many boxes. It looks brilliant, boasts a quality-rich interior and can be loaded to the rafters with tasty options.
But while it’s undoubtedly quick, it lacks the sparkle of the Porsche 718 Cayman or Alpine A110. It’s also a tad expensive and the ride quality suffers on fashionably large alloys.
