  • Audi R8 2020
  • For: That engine, handling, usability
  • Against: Expensive, sombre cabin
  • Verdict: The V10 supercar you can drive to work

The Audi R8 is the supercar you can drive to work. Unlike other highly-strung exotica, the R8 offers daily-driver usability and reasonable practicality – assuming you can live with inevitably high running costs.

Power is sourced from a ferocious 5.2-litre V10 engine, shared with the Lamborghini Huracan. Indeed, it sits on the same platform as the Italian supercar.

There are three core versions available: R8 Coupe, R8 Spyder and R8 RWD. The latter was initially launched as a limited-run special in 2018, but the rear-wheel-drive model is now a permanent member of the R8 range.

In trad-Audi style, the others are driven through all four wheels, called quattro.

The R8 is a fabulous thing, with a beautifully finished (if slightly sombre) cabin and a strong image.

It’s not cheap, though – prices start from nearly £120,000 – and things get even pricier once you’ve had some fun with the huge array of options.
